Samsung has officially entered the next level of foldable smartphones with the Galaxy Z TriFold - a tri-folding device boasting a massive 10-inch internal display and top-tier specs.

Triple-fold design with smart hinge: fold it wrong, it warns you

The Galaxy Z TriFold features an inward triple-folding design that fully protects the main screen when closed. Samsung has equipped it with a sensor system that immediately alerts users via vibration and on-screen warning if the device is folded incorrectly - a smart durability safeguard for what has historically been a weak point in foldables.

“TriFold is the result of years of research into foldable forms, simultaneously solving three critical factors: portability, flagship performance, and unmatched multitasking,” said TM Roh, President and Head of Samsung's Device Business.

The Armor FlexHinge, first introduced on the Z Fold 7, has been upgraded. It uses two hinges of different sizes and a dual-rail structure to reduce gaps and enhance closing stability. The body is made of Armor Aluminum alloy, while the hinge casing is titanium.

Each unit undergoes rigorous quality control - from CT scanning circuit boards to laser-mapping component heights - to ensure engineering precision.

Unlike the Huawei Mate XT, which leaves part of its main screen exposed when folded, the Z TriFold fully encloses its display. It also includes a dedicated cover display, whereas the Mate XT reuses the main screen for both functions.

A tablet in your pocket: 10-inch display and robust specs

For foldable phone fans, two things matter most: display size and high-end specs. The Galaxy Z TriFold delivers on both.

The primary display is a 10-inch Dynamic AMOLED panel with 2160 x 1584 resolution, 1,600 nits peak brightness, and a 120Hz refresh rate - among the largest ever seen on a smartphone.

The 6.5-inch external screen sports Full HD+ resolution, a 21:9 aspect ratio, 2,600 nits brightness, and 120Hz refresh - bright enough for outdoor use.

Folded, the device measures 159.2 × 75 × 12.9 mm. Unfolded, its width expands to 214.1 mm, and it’s just 3.9 mm thick. Weighing in at 309g, it’s hefty but essentially a tablet that fits in your pocket.

Compared to the Huawei Mate XT, which is slightly thinner at 3.6 mm and lighter at 298g, the Z TriFold may not win in portability - but its screen protection and hardware muscle give it a clear edge.

Five cameras and a familiar 200MP sensor

The Galaxy Z TriFold houses five cameras: a 200MP main sensor with Quad Pixel autofocus and OIS, a 12MP ultra-wide, a 10MP telephoto with 3x optical and 30x digital zoom, a 10MP front camera on the cover display, and another 10MP selfie camera on the main screen.

Galaxy Z TriFold won’t dethrone the S26 Ultra in pure photography power, but its 200MP sensor and Samsung’s trusted image processing mean it could rival or surpass the Z Fold 7 under certain conditions.

Under the hood is a Snapdragon 8 Elite - not the very latest Gen 5, but still a flagship-grade chip. The device comes with 16GB of RAM and storage options of 512GB or 1TB. It runs One UI 8 based on Android 16 and is available in a single premium finish: Crafted Black, designed to evoke the look and texture of carbon fiber.

Biggest battery in Galaxy history

The TriFold is powered by a triple-cell 5,600mAh battery - the largest ever in a Galaxy device.

It supports 45W wired fast charging and 15W wireless charging. While not leading in wattage, the huge battery compensates with impressive longevity, even for a 10-inch display.

The phone is rated IP48 - splash-resistant but not dustproof, so not ideal for beach or desert use.

The display is reinforced with Corning’s Ceramics 2 glass and a polymer strengthening layer. Still, despite durability improvements, foldables remain more fragile than traditional slab phones.

Built for power users and multitaskers

The Galaxy Z TriFold is made for professionals: office workers, engineers, architects, and content creators who demand serious productivity on the go.

Its 10-inch screen provides enough space to comfortably run three apps side by side, emulating three 6.5-inch displays simultaneously.

Its biggest breakthrough is fully integrated Samsung DeX on the internal display. Unlike other Samsung phones that require an external monitor, the TriFold becomes a mini desktop computer with just a keyboard and mouse.

DeX supports up to four workspaces, each running five apps concurrently - ideal for managing documents, 3D models, spreadsheets, or design software.

The TriFold also supports external displays in Extended Mode, turning it into a dual-screen workstation. Galaxy AI powers everything from photo processing to translation and content summarization.

How it stacks up against Huawei Mate XT Ultimate Design

Huawei’s Mate XT beats the TriFold in charging speed (66W wired, 50W wireless), pixel density (381ppi vs 269ppi), and telephoto zoom (5.5x vs 3x).

However, Samsung counters with a more powerful chip, superior 200MP sensor, a mature Android ecosystem, powerful built-in DeX, and access to richer apps compared to Huawei’s HarmonyOS.

The Mate XT is lighter and thinner, but the TriFold wins in raw performance, multitasking capabilities, and software flexibility.

Pricing and release date

In South Korea, the Galaxy Z TriFold is set to go on sale starting December 12. Launch dates for other markets including China, Singapore, the UAE, and the U.S. will be announced soon.

Price remains unconfirmed, but it’s widely expected to be among the most expensive smartphones ever. Yet, given what it offers - especially for professionals - the price tag may be justified.
