As of the morning of November 20, water was receding slowly in what are known locally as the "flood basins" of eastern Gia Lai. However, authorities have not yet allowed residents to return to their homes, citing continued flood risks.
Rainfall has dropped significantly since last night, and combined with a reduction in dam discharge from upstream hydroelectric facilities, this has allowed floodwaters to begin receding.
In areas like Quy Nhon Bac Ward and Tuy Phuoc Commune, water levels have fallen noticeably compared to the flood peak on November 19. Several roads have reopened to traffic.
In Long Van, part of Quy Nhon Bac Ward, streets remained heavily flooded on the morning of November 20. In some areas, vehicles can now navigate through as water levels drop.
On Ho Van Hue Street, many households were still dealing with floodwaters reaching thigh level. The SOS Children's Village in the area also remained deeply inundated.
At the intersection of Ho Dac Di and Hung Vuong Streets in Quy Nhon Bac, hundreds of officers from the Gia Lai provincial police force delivered essential supplies to affected residents.
In Dak Lak Province’s Tuy Hoa Ward, rainfall has also subsided, though water is draining slowly. The area remains surrounded by floodwaters, isolating numerous communities.
Local response continues as waters isolate towns
In Tuy Hoa, flood levels remain alarmingly high. Many homes are still submerged, while murky floodwaters continue to engulf entire residential neighborhoods.
The Provincial Military Command of Dak Lak deployed boats and canoes to access Tuy An Bac Commune - one of the hardest-hit and most isolated areas.
As flooding persists throughout the South Central region, emergency aircraft have been mobilized to deliver life jackets and aid to cut-off regions in Gia Lai and Dak Lak.
