Following their runner-up finish in the first leg, the team returned home to Ninh Binh to host regional rivals in this leg of the tournament. In their opening match, coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet’s squad faced off once again against the Philippines.

In their previous encounter, Vietnam claimed a convincing 3-1 victory over the same opponent. However, with home court advantage this time, Bich Tuyen and her teammates were reminded not to let their guard down.

Despite their earlier loss, the Philippines posed significant challenges. The team boasts not only good height but also impressive stamina and athleticism.

Furthermore, multiple matchups between the two sides over the past months - including the AVC Nations Cup in June, the VTV Cup 2025 in July, and the first leg of the SEA V-League earlier in August - have given the Philippine players valuable insight into Vietnam’s playing style.

Still, experts believe that if Vietnam plays to its full potential, they should be able to secure a win and start the tournament on a strong note.

Boosted by the support of home fans, the Vietnamese players are well-prepared in both technique and mentality. Coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet is expected to rotate the lineup to conserve energy for key players and offer opportunities to less frequently fielded athletes.

In a recently finalized squad list, the head coach replaced Libero Ninh Anh with outside hitter Nguyen Thi Phuong. In this opening match against a relatively evenly matched opponent, the 26-year-old spiker is likely to see action on the court.

The Vietnam vs Philippines match is scheduled for 7:00 PM on August 8, preceded by the Thailand vs Indonesia clash at 4:00 PM.
