On December 7, before the Laos team returned home, members of Vietnam’s U22 squad visited Phetdavanh to check on his condition and offer words of encouragement. Midfielder Khuat Van Khang and his teammates wished him a speedy recovery and return to the pitch.

Phetdavanh was moved by the visit from Vietnam U22 players, who also gave him a $300 gift.

"At noon today, just before the Laos team left the hotel, the Vietnam U22 players came to comfort their injured peer. Everyone empathized with him and shared some heartfelt sentiments to help him heal faster," said Vietnamese center-back Hong Minh.

Phetdavanh was visibly emotional, not only because of the visit but also because his Vietnamese colleagues gave him a small gift of $300. The Laos captain later posted a message of gratitude on his personal social media account, praising the kindness of the young Vietnamese players.

Earlier, in the 85th minute of the match between Laos and Malaysia, Phetdavanh made a dangerous tackle on an opposing player. The referee immediately issued him a second yellow card. He was not only sent off but also had to be stretchered off the field.

Medical examinations later confirmed that the 2001-born defender had broken his right leg. He was given first aid on-site before being transported to a hospital by ambulance.

With a 1-4 loss to Malaysia, the Laos U22 team became the first to be eliminated from SEA Games 33. In their opening match, the “Million Elephants” had also lost 1-2 to Vietnam.
