Head coach Mai Duc Chung expressed complete satisfaction with his team’s performance, highlighting not only the result but also how the team executed their tactical plan with discipline.
“It’s been a long time since we last faced Malaysia. Watching their recent match footage, I noticed they’ve improved significantly. They even beat teams like Kazakhstan and Bangladesh, which made me slightly concerned,” said Coach Chung.
“That’s why I reminded the players not to be complacent and to stay fully focused. I’m thrilled to see them execute everything so well today.”
He revealed that the starting lineup was a deliberate mix of young and experienced players. The goal was to give younger athletes valuable match exposure while ensuring tactical balance.
“We scored many goals, avoided cards, and had no injuries. All three objectives were met. I’m very pleased with the team's performance,” the coach affirmed.
Despite the emphatic scoreline, Coach Chung believes there is room for improvement.
“We won 7-0, but I always encourage my players to score as many goals as possible. We’re in a group with the Philippines and Myanmar, so goal difference could become a crucial factor,” he added.
Midfielder Thai Thi Thao, who netted a hat trick in the match, shared her joy after the final whistle.
“This was our first match at the SEA Games, and the coaching staff emphasized the need for total focus. I’m happy that the team delivered exactly what was expected. This was a collective effort - I was simply the one to finish off the chances and was lucky enough to score,” she said modestly.
Vietnam’s captain Pham Hai Yen also contributed two goals to the team’s victory.
