Vietnam’s national women’s volleyball team concluded their first-ever appearance at the Women’s Volleyball World Championship with a loss to Kenya, but the scoreline barely reflects the greater picture of pride, perseverance, and progress.

Despite exiting in the group stage, what lingers most from Vietnam’s campaign is the indomitable fighting spirit, determination, and valuable lessons that the team will carry forward for the nation’s volleyball future.
Drawn into a tough group with physically dominant and experienced teams, head coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet’s squad showed no signs of intimidation. Set by set, against Poland, Germany, and Kenya, Vietnam’s players competed with confidence, pushed for every point, and forced their opponents into tense rallies.
It was a powerful demonstration of mental fortitude by a team making their first appearance on the world’s biggest volleyball stage.
Among the standouts was captain Tran Thi Thanh Thuy. Not only did she consistently score vital points, but she also inspired her teammates with her relentless attitude and ever-present smile. Alongside her, emerging stars like Bich Thuy, Kieu Trinh, and Nhu Quynh made strong impressions with powerful attacks, solid blocks, and gritty defense.
These matches in Thailand were a promising glimpse into Vietnam’s next generation of volleyball talent.

More than the outcome, this world championship experience provided invaluable exposure. The team was tested against modern styles of play, physical demands, and the pressure of elite-level competition.
Though Vietnam may still trail in areas like physique, speed, and raw power, their spirit, teamwork, and coordination proved they are not far behind. With more strategic investment, there’s growing belief that the team can soon reach elite standards.
Vietnam leaves the tournament winless but transformed - more united, more experienced, and with a deeper sense of belief. Facing world-class opponents has equipped them to take on future continental competitions with renewed confidence.
This brief but emotional journey at the 2025 World Championship will be remembered as a landmark moment in Vietnamese volleyball.
It also affirms that the national women’s team is on the right path. With unshakable resolve and belief, they are edging closer to the day when they will celebrate historic victories on the global stage.
