On the evening of August 26, Dr. Nguyen Xuan Anh - Director of the Earthquake and Tsunami Warning Center (under the Institute of Geophysics) - confirmed that an earthquake had just occurred in Cao Duong commune, Phu Tho province.
The earthquake happened at 10:46:42 GMT, which corresponds to 5:46:42 PM local time in Hanoi. It was recorded at a latitude of 20.716°N and a longitude of 105.657°E. The hypocenter was approximately 16 kilometers deep, and the earthquake registered a magnitude of 3.6 on the Richter scale. It was assessed at disaster risk level 0 - the lowest level.
Around the same time, many Hanoi residents shared on social media that they had felt light tremors. Some reported brief dizziness, though the sensation was short-lived.
A social media user named Ha Tran wrote: "At first, I felt a slight shaking, a bit dizzy, thought it was just me. When I sat up and looked around, everything seemed normal. Only after seeing others talking about it did I realize there was an earthquake."
