At dawn on September 29, a sudden tornado struck Ninh Binh province, causing severe loss of life and property. Scenes of devastation unfolded everywhere, with trees uprooted, roofs torn away, and houses collapsing.

Reporters at Quy Nhat commune witnessed heavy destruction to buildings, homes, and corrugated roofs. Billboards were ripped off and scattered across the area. Along Provincial Road 490C, trees lay toppled across the road.

Residents said the storm lasted less than 10 minutes but was strong enough to “tear through” the neighborhood, leaving families shocked and unprepared.

Local forces rushed to the scene to assist in recovery efforts.

Additional structures were also badly damaged, with broken branches and shattered tiles littering the ground. The rear of Thu’s house was left in ruins, with its steel door bolt snapped in two.

Many power poles in Quy Nhat were knocked down, cutting off electricity across a wide area.

Another home belonging to Tran Ha Chinh (born 1973) in Quy Nhat suffered severe damage. Even solid lim-wood doors were ripped apart. One house collapsed completely, killing one person on the spot.

Initial statistics show that in Quy Nhat commune, 21 houses lost roofs, 5 collapsed, leaving 4 dead and many injured. Authorities quickly mobilized forces to help residents and console the bereaved. Damage assessments and recovery work are ongoing.

In Hai Anh commune, 30 electricity poles were downed, houses collapsed, leaving 1 person dead. In Hai Thinh commune, roof damage and house collapses caused another fatality and left 4 injured.

In total, six people were confirmed dead in Ninh Binh after the tornado’s destructive sweep.
