Around 7:00 PM, torrential rains fell heavily on the area in front of Thong Nhat General Hospital. In less than 30 minutes, stormwater overflowed from drainage systems, flooding sidewalks and roadways, and dragging trash and mud into the streets.

In one particularly dangerous moment, a group of young people on motorbikes was knocked over and swept away by fast-moving waters while trying to cross a flooded area near the Sacred Heart Church, heading from Dong Nai toward Ho Chi Minh City.

Many other motorbikes were forced to stop and turn around or mount the sidewalk to avoid being carried away. Larger vehicles, including buses and trucks, struggled to navigate the flooded road. Some drivers were forced to stop and wait for the water to subside, causing localized traffic jams.

Residents in the area said such flooding on Highway 1 is a recurring problem during the rainy season. Every heavy downpour brings water overflowing onto the roads, exacerbated by accumulated trash, which not only causes congestion but also poses serious risks of accidents.

According to the Dong Nai Hydro-Meteorological Station, convective clouds are expected to continue dumping rain and thunderstorms on many wards and communes across the province over the next 3 to 4 hours.

Meteorologists have issued warnings about potential tornadoes, lightning, hail, strong gusts, flooding in low-lying areas, and damage to homes and infrastructure. Areas near Tri An Lake, Long Thanh Airport, high-rise buildings, and riverbanks are especially vulnerable.
