As reported by the Southern and Central Highlands Hydro-Meteorological Center at 4:00 a.m. on August 25, the center of Storm No. 5 was located at approximately 18.3°N latitude and 107.7°E longitude.

It was about 220 km east-southeast of Nghe An, 200 km east-southeast of Ha Tinh, and 180 km east-northeast of northern Quang Tri. The strongest winds near the storm’s center reached level 14 (150-166 km/h), with gusts up to level 17. The storm was moving west-northwest at about 20 km/h.

Due to the impact of Storm No. 5, coastal areas from Lam Dong to Ca Mau, including waters off Ho Chi Minh City, were experiencing southwest winds at level 5, sometimes reaching level 6 with gusts of level 7-8. Specifically, Lam Dong waters had level 6 winds, sometimes reaching level 7 with gusts up to level 8-9, and wave heights from 2 to 4 meters.

The seas off Ca Mau, An Giang, and Phu Quoc had southwest winds at level 5, gusting to levels 6-7, with wave heights of 1.5 to 2.5 meters. Both regions experienced scattered showers and thunderstorms, with risks of waterspouts and strong gusty winds.

On August 25, weather conditions in Ho Chi Minh City and other southern provinces were cloudy, with intermittent sunshine, and widespread showers. Scattered moderate to heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms was forecast. During storms, there was a high risk of lightning, strong gusts, and tornadoes.

Forecasts indicate that over the next 2-3 days, Ho Chi Minh City will continue to see moderate to heavy rain. Total rainfall during this period will generally range from 100mm to 140mm, with localized amounts exceeding 140mm.

According to the Southern and Central Highlands Hydro-Meteorological Center, from August 25-26 and August 29-31, the weather in Ho Chi Minh City will range from partly cloudy to mostly cloudy, with intermittent sunshine and widespread thunderstorms.

Scattered moderate to heavy rain is likely, with thunderstorms bringing potential lightning, strong winds, and tornadoes. Rainfall is expected to peak during midday, afternoon, and evening hours. Maximum temperatures will range from 30°C to 33°C.

From August 27-28 and September 1-2, the weather will feature variable cloud cover with sunshine during the day, scattered showers and thunderstorms, and localized moderate to heavy rain.

Thunderstorms during this period will also carry risks of lightning, strong winds, and tornadoes. Rainfall will mostly occur in the afternoon and evening, with maximum temperatures ranging from 32°C to 34°C.

“Be on high alert for thunderstorms accompanied by hazardous weather phenomena such as lightning, strong gusts, and tornadoes, which can affect agricultural production, uproot trees, damage buildings, transportation infrastructure, and essential services.

Heavy rainfall may cause flooding in low-lying urban areas with poor drainage, disrupting traffic,” the Southern and Central Highlands Hydro-Meteorological Center warned.
