Former Liverpool striker Harry Kewell emphasized that Hanoi FC’s combination of high ambitions and desire to build a unique identity was what persuaded him to accept the head coach position.
Harry Kewell took over as head coach of Hanoi FC, motivated by the club’s ambition and strong identity.
On the afternoon of October 9, Harry Kewell was officially introduced as the head coach of Hanoi FC. The Australian expressed excitement about the challenge of coaching in the V-League, especially at one of the most successful clubs in Vietnamese football history.
“The job at Hanoi FC comes with a lot of pressure,” said Kewell. “But I’m ready to take on that pressure. I guarantee I’ll work hard and give my best.”
“To build a strong team, I have to rely on the quality of the players I have, as well as how we work together day by day. If we want to play like Liverpool or Arsenal, it will take time and the right personnel,” he added.
“I’m a coach who always tries to adapt and do everything possible to achieve the goals set. Hanoi FC doesn’t just have ambition for success, but also has pride and identity. That’s what excites me and convinced me to come to Vietnam and lead this club.”
Harry Kewell will make his debut leading Hanoi FC in a match against top-of-the-table Ninh Binh on October 18.

Hanoi FC chairman Do Vinh Quang shared that the club is placing great expectations on Harry Kewell to lead the team’s long-term, structured development and fulfill their vision of reaching continental competition.
“We spent a lot of time negotiating and discussing before getting his agreement,” Quang said. “Kewell’s sole objective in coming to Hanoi is to win with the team.”
Harry Kewell replaces former coach Makoto Teguramori. Currently, Hanoi FC is in sixth place in the V-League. The match against Ninh Binh on October 18 will mark Kewell’s first game in charge.
