The tournament, part of the Badminton World Federation’s (BWF) prestigious Super 100 series, runs from September 9-14 with a total prize pool of 110,000 USD.

In the men’s singles, the draw features strong contenders such as Japan’s Takuma Obayashi, Indonesia’s Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo, and Vietnam’s Nguyen Hai Dang, seeded seventh and seen as the country’s main hope. In the women’s singles, defending champion Nguyen Thuy Linh, top seed of the tournament, is aiming for her fourth consecutive title after victories in 2022, 2023 and 2024.

On the opening day, Vietnam’s Vu Thi Trang played the first match for the host country, defeating Indonesia’s Aashi Rawat 2-1, marking an encouraging start for the home team.

According to the organisers, the Vietnam Open has long been a “fertile ground” for young talents to shine, with many champions and players who once competed here going on to become international stars. The tournament not only offers exciting sporting action but also serves as an opportunity to promote HCM City’s dynamic, friendly and globally integrated image to international friends./.VNA
