As of August 15, Ben Thanh Ward Police were holding L.P.V.C., 33, for questioning and building a case after he was accused of groping women on the metro.
On the afternoon of August 14, police detained C. and took statements from two women, P. (20) and V. (19). P. accused him of directly molesting her while riding Metro Line 1 from Thu Duc Station to Ben Thanh Station that same day.
Meanwhile, V. reported she had been harassed by C. a month earlier, on July 13, during another metro ride. On August 14, she unexpectedly encountered him again. Recognizing him immediately, she discreetly filmed and photographed his actions as he allegedly molested P.
After images circulated online, other women came forward. Model R.L. confirmed that she too had been harassed by C. on July 31. Many more reported similar experiences on the metro and even buses around Thu Duc and the University Village area. Police also discovered several suspicious student ID cards in his backpack, raising concerns they may have been forged to access campuses and harass female students.

According to victim statements, C. typically wore a long-sleeve black jacket, carried a backpack in front of his chest, and used it to shield his hands while groping women. On August 14, when he targeted P., she loudly confronted him, hitting him as the train pulled into Ben Thanh Station. He tried to flee but was chased into the men’s restroom, where P. continued to strike him until station security and riot police intervened.
Initially, C. denied the accusations at the police station but later confessed after further questioning.
Victim’s advice
V., who encountered him twice - once as a victim and once as a witness - urged other women not to stay silent. “The first time, I kept quiet and that gave him another chance to offend again. If you are harassed in public, you must call out loudly for help and alert security.”
