In 2005, Dinh Duong Tung Anh made headlines as the valedictorian of Hai Phong University of Medicine and Pharmacy, scoring an impressive 29.5 out of 30 in the national university entrance exam. Two decades later, he is now the youngest candidate for associate professor in Vietnam’s medical field in 2025.
Born in 1988, Dr. Dinh Duong Tung Anh is currently the acting deputy head of the Pediatrics Department, Faculty of Medicine, at Hai Phong University of Medicine and Pharmacy.
After earning dual degrees in General Medicine and English Language in 2011, Dr. Tung Anh pursued advanced medical research abroad.

In 2015, he completed his Master’s degree in Cell Biology, Physiology, and Pathology at the University of Paris 7 - Paris Diderot in France. Four years later, in 2019, he successfully defended his PhD dissertation in Developmental Neuroscience at Kanazawa University, Japan.
Upon returning to Vietnam, Dr. Tung Anh began teaching and conducting research at the same university where he once ranked first. Starting as a probationary lecturer in 2014, he steadily rose through academic roles including lecturer, postgraduate academic advisor, deputy head of department, and now acting department leader.
His research spans three major areas: pediatric clinical medicine, antimicrobial resistance in pathogenic bacteria, and developmental neuroscience.
In pediatric clinical medicine, he focuses on common childhood illnesses such as respiratory, cardiovascular, digestive, and neurological disorders, aiming to improve treatment outcomes and reduce child mortality.
In antimicrobial resistance, Dr. Tung Anh’s research contributes significantly to monitoring antibiotic resistance trends in Hai Phong. His findings help clinicians develop appropriate treatment plans and control resistance risks.
Meanwhile, in developmental neuroscience - a field he specialized in during his time in Japan - his work has elucidated several mechanisms involved in the formation and differentiation of neural cells, shedding light on the causes of congenital brain malformations.
To date, Dr. Tung Anh has led eight institutional-level research projects and supervised over nine graduate students, including master's candidates, medical residents, and level-2 specialists.
He has published 58 scientific papers, including 11 in reputable international journals and six in Scopus Q1 journals - ranked among the top 25% in their fields. He has also authored two pediatric textbooks used in undergraduate and postgraduate training.
In his associate professor candidacy dossier, Dr. Tung Anh states that he fully meets the professional standards defined under the amended 2009 Education Law. He is recognized for his integrity, professional ethics, and commitment to teaching.
Professionally trained and well-versed in educational standards, he applies scientific research to elevate his expertise and frequently collaborates with students on research projects.
As an educator and medical professional, he leads by example, constantly refining his teaching methods to foster creativity and self-directed learning among students.
He is also known for his collaborative mindset, building well-structured research teams, serving as a bridge between academic institutions and hospitals, and integrating education, scientific research, and pediatric clinical practice.
