A fall on the Ha Giang loop turned into a moving story of compassion for Korean traveler Jeon Heesu.
Heesu, 32, had planned a 3-day trip to experience the famous Ha Giang loop - a 350 km route stretching from Quan Ba through Yen Minh, Dong Van, and Meo Vac before returning to the starting point. The scenic loop, known for its winding mountain passes and deep valleys, was ranked among the Top 5 cycling routes in Asia 2024 by Hong Kong’s SCMP.
Heesu rented a motorbike to explore parts of the Ha Giang loop on her own.
But on the first day, about 50 km from the city center, Heesu suddenly lost control and fell into a roadside gully. Covered in dirt, she was shaken and bewildered.
“I don’t know what happened. It felt like something fell from a truck passing by - or maybe from the sky,” she recalled.
The Korean visitor in shock after the sudden accident.
Luckily, nearby locals rushed to help. Two men lifted her motorbike back onto the road, while a woman invited Heesu into her home, offering clean clothes, a shower, and comfort. They carefully checked to ensure she was not seriously injured.
Moved by their kindness, Heesu accepted an invitation from a young man who brought her to his eatery and served her a steaming bowl of spicy noodles.
She later described it as “the most delicious meal I’ve had in Vietnam.” When the owner insisted it was free, her gratitude grew even stronger - though she insisted on paying.
Local residents quickly stepped in to help the young woman handle the incident.
A young local welcomed Heesu to his restaurant and offered her lunch free of charge.
The Korean YouTuber later posted a video thanking the locals of Ha Giang for their kindness. The young woman enjoys a cozy evening before leaving Ha Giang for South Korea.
Though her injuries were only minor scratches and the motorbike suffered little damage, Heesu decided to return to the rental office and suspend her trip. The agency arranged repairs, provided her a place to stay, and invited her to a warm evening gathering.
Speaking with VietNamNet, the rental agency confirmed the accident occurred in late July. “She was anxious at first and wanted to return to Hanoi immediately, but we reassured her, arranged accommodation, and welcomed her to our group dinner,” a representative shared.
Back in Korea, Heesu updated her YouTube channel (with over 67,000 followers), reporting that her health remained stable and expressing heartfelt thanks to the locals who had helped her. Though her journey ended prematurely, she said she felt “compensated by the love and kindness” she received - and hopes to one day return to complete the loop.
