The HCMC Department of Construction recently submitted a detailed report to the city’s People’s Committee outlining the implementation plan for the project. The expansion will cover the section from Binh Trieu Bridge to the former boundary with Binh Duong Province.
This project is one of five BOT gateway infrastructure developments prioritized under Resolution 98, which provides HCMC with special mechanisms to address severe traffic congestion at key entry points to the city.
The groundbreaking is planned for Q4 2026, with total investment reaching approximately 21.724 trillion VND (around 880 million USD), including interest expenses.
Of this amount, over 14.7 trillion VND (595 million USD) will come from state capital, while the remaining 7.017 trillion VND (285 million USD) will be mobilized from the private sector via the BOT model.
The project aims to widen the existing road to 10 lanes, with a cross-sectional width of 60 meters and a design speed of 80 km/h.
A key highlight of the project is the construction of a 3.2 km elevated road with four lanes and parallel surface roads on both sides, designed for speeds up to 60 km/h.
The elevated and parallel roads are expected to separate traffic flows, reduce conflict points, and resolve long-standing overload issues on this arterial route.
According to the approved schedule, preparations will be accelerated. The feasibility study report is expected to be completed and approved by Q4 2025.
Investor selection and BOT contract signing are slated for Q1 to early Q2 of 2026.
Following the finalization of design and contractor selection, construction is set to officially commence in Q4 2026.
The entire project is expected to be completed and operational by 2028, delivering a seamless, modern traffic corridor that boosts economic connectivity between HCMC and neighboring provinces.
