At 12:48 p.m. that day, a major collision occurred at Km 42+600 of National Highway 1, in Hop Nhat hamlet, Nhan Ly commune, Lang Son province.
The crash involved a semi-trailer truck (license plate 98E-000.77) towing a trailer (license plate 98R-013.xx), driven by Pham Van Dung (born in 1981, resident of Viet Yen commune, Bac Ninh province), traveling in the Hanoi–Lang Son direction.
The truck collided with a seven-seater SUV (license plate 19A-483.xx) driven by Lai Quang Nhan (born in 1993, resident of Thuong Tin commune, Hanoi), coming from the opposite direction.
The crash resulted in four people being killed at the scene and two others seriously injured. All six victims were in the SUV. The injured were rushed to Chi Lang Regional Medical Center in Lang Son for emergency treatment.
Immediately after the accident, Colonel Vu Thanh Tung, Director of the Lang Son Provincial Police, and Colonel Nguyen Huu Duc, Deputy Director, led a working group along with Doan Thanh Son, Vice Chairman of the provincial People's Committee.
They coordinated with emergency services to rescue victims, secure the scene, control traffic flow, and initiate an investigation into the cause of the crash.
The delegation also visited and offered support to the injured victims.
On the same day, the Criminal Investigation Department of the Lang Son Provincial Police decided to prosecute the case for violating road traffic regulations.
They also issued an emergency detention order for driver Lai Quang Nhan for violating traffic laws.
