According to the provincial Department of Industry and Trade, Bac Ninh continues to maintain the country’s largest lychee-growing area, spanning 29,700 hectares. This includes 17,317 hectares certified under VietGAP standards, up 1,577 hectares from 2024; 173 hectares certified under GlobalGAP, up 91 hectares; and an organic lychee model maintained in Chu ward.
Right from the start of the season, local authorities expanded the number of planting area codes and packaging facilities to meet export requirements. As a result, lychee output reached record levels: early-harvest lychees contributed 75,300 tons, up 27,700 tons year-on-year, while the main crop produced 130,100 tons, a surge of 92,000 tons.
Lychees grown under VietGAP and GlobalGAP standards were sold at high prices, ranging from VND 25,000-35,000 ($1.00-1.40) per kilogram. In export markets such as Japan, the US, Canada, Australia, EU countries (France, Germany, Czech Republic, Italy, Belgium, Norway, Sweden, the Netherlands), and the Middle East, prices ranged from VND 220,000-550,000 ($8.70-21.60) per kilogram. Consumers praised the fruit for its quality and flavor.
A major highlight of 2025 was the breakthrough in exports to high-standard markets such as the EU and North America. Bac Ninh lychees are now sold in major retail chains and wholesale markets, including Safeway, Albertsons, and Costco in the US and Canada; Selgros and Dong Xuan Market in Germany; Sapa Market in the Czech Republic; and the world’s largest wholesale market, Rungis International in France.
“This achievement is a crucial foundation for building a fully integrated supply chain from high-quality lychee production to distribution in demanding global markets,” a representative from the provincial Department of Industry and Trade stated.
Bac Ninh exported approximately 78,200 tons of lychees in the recent season. Of this, about 77,200 tons went to China, accounting for 98.8% of exports, while other markets received 1,000 tons.
Domestically, consumption also expanded, with 127,200 tons sold nationwide - nearly 62% of total production. Sales channels included traditional markets and supermarkets, alongside new approaches such as livestream sales on TikTok, Facebook, and Zalo. These digital methods not only boosted online sales but also helped farmers adapt to e-commerce.
The total revenue from lychees and related services reached over VND 6.245 trillion ($246 million). Lychee sales alone contributed VND 3.719 trillion ($146 million), while auxiliary services such as honey production and tourism generated VND 2.526 trillion ($99 million), creating new income streams for rural communities.
